Cllr Gail Giles and the Basque children of Caerleon

  • Gail Giles played a major part in this month’s celebration of the arrival of young Basque children who fled Franco eighty years ago. As part of this year’s Caerleon Festival, 56 children – many of whom remained rather than go back to Spain after the civil war – were remembered at a special series of events in the Priory Hotel.

Gail, as well as chairing a discussion in front of a packed audience, also spoke about her own publication “From Bilbao to Caerleon”, which she wrote some years ago as part of her history degree.
