Congratulations to Labour Leader of Newport City Council on Life Peerage from Caerleon Labour Councillors
Baroness Debbie Wilcox will join the House of Lords as a Life Peer in recognition of over nearly 40 years of public service as a teacher, national examiner and, for the last 15 years, as a Labour Councillor.
Our Labour Councillors Gail Giles and Jason Hughes praise her exceptional contribution and achievements:
“We are absolutely delighted that Debbie Wilcox has been recognised in such a way. Baroness Wilcox has always been an outstanding voice for the people of Newport, most significantly as a Cabinet Member, Leader of the Council and Leader of the WLGA ( Welsh Local Government Organisation). The first woman Leader of Newport City Council, her professionalism, courage and integrity throughout these very difficult political times has had significant influence not only in Newport but also across Wales and England. In addition, she is an unstinting champion for those in need, fighting for equality and breaking down barriers for women. Baroness Wilcox will be a significant and positive addition to the House of Lords and we wish her every success.”
