The news of the imminent opening of this important new hospital is very welcome and will play a crucial part in the fight against Coronavirus as we enter what could to be a second wave.
However, our Labour Councillors also remain vigilant about the possible impact of additional traffic through Caerleon.
Both Gail and Jason have raised this issue consistently, including with Aneurin Bevan University Health Board directly, and following a request from Gail, Newport City Planning Officers have made this submission to Torfaen CBC:
20/P/0523/CND – Discharge of condition 26 (Travel Plan)
In relation to this discharge of condition, Newport City Council would appreciate a specific reference to Caerleon within the Travel Plan and the fact that it is an air quality management area. Therefore, we would be grateful if this could be highlighted within the document and mechanisms should be put in place to alert people to this fact and deter them from travelling through the area in private motorised vehicles.
