Our Labour Councillors, Gail Giles and Jason Hughes, attend the official Opening of Caerleon Lodge Hill Primary School/ Ysgol Gynradd Lodge Hill Caerleon
Caerleon Lodge Hill Primary School hosted its official opening day on Thursday, 3rd October. Mrs Saville, the Headteacher of the new school, welcomed both the Leader of the Council, Councillor Debbie Wilcox and the Cabinet Member for Education and Skills, Councillor Gail Giles.
For Councillor Wilcox this was her last opening of a new school in Newport before taking up her new role as Baroness Wilcox of Newport.
For Councillor Giles this was an immensely important occasion opening a brand new purpose built school in Caerleon. Both Councillor Wilcox and Councillor Giles provided speeches thanking Mrs Saville, the schools staff, Education officers, Newport City Council, Welsh Government, Governors, PTA, Newport Norse, and Morgan Sindell for ensuring the completion of the magnificent building and the smooth transition to a highly successful primary school. The children were thanked particularly for their contribution through the school’s pupil voice and their design of the new school logo and motto.
The plaque to mark the opening of the school was presented to the Head Boy and Head Girl by Councillor Wilcox before the chair of Governors, Caroline McLachlan, also gave her thanks to Councillor Wilcox, Councillor Giles and Mrs Saville, the staff, governors, PTA and friends as well as the visiting guests who included Councillor Jason Hughes, Carolyne and Julio Benavides, representing Charles Williams Church in Wales Primary school, and Sarah Morgan, Chief Education Officer for Newport City Council.
Councillor Hughes praised the efforts of all those involved who ensured the new school was built and the successful amalgamation of the Infants and Junior school into the new Primary school, resulting in a first class addition to the excellent education we have in all our schools in Caerleon.
The children were a credit to the school throughout the event and sang several songs beautifully in what was a very special day for all the young people and staff and the town of Caerleon.
