A record crowd vindicates Labour’s fight to save Caerleon’s Christmas tree!

  • More than 150 people gathered on Goldcroft Common to sing carols around the Christmas tree – a long standing event which, for the second year running, was nearly abandoned because of a threat by the ConDem led council to withdraw funding.

A rearguard action, organised by Labour councillor Gail Giles, ensured that the traditional gathering which gives local people so much pleasure was held once again. Support for this year’s event, conducted by Canon Arthur Edwards and his fellow clergy from St Cadoc’s Church, was overwhelming.

Music by members of Caerleon Comprehensive School’s brass band helped to complete a perfect evening.
