Angel car park – a sign of things to come?

  • Parking is one of the biggest issues in the controversy over the Angel Hotel’s possible future as a supermarket.

Residents fear that the parking space behind the Angel will be inadequate if it’s taken over by Sainsbury’s, leading to dangerous traffic situations and overspill into neighbouring streets.

These pictures, taken two days before Newport Councillors held a site meeting at the Angel, could be seen as a sign of things to come if the developers get planning permission.

A beer lorry unloading at the back of the pub couldn’t get fully into the car park, and as well as parking across the pavement was also jutting out into Mill Street, forcing traffic steer to the opposite of the road.
