Caerleon environment under threat again!

  • Caerleon Councillors continue the fight to safeguard Caerleon’s environment and heritage. There are new threats and we need your help.  Consultation on Newport City Council’s Local Development Plan has reached a crucial stage in that new submissions have been made this month by potential developers.  The “Alternative Sites Register” for outside bodies and individuals now includes submissions for:

Hanbury Garage and Field. Proposed developments which could affect the use of the cycleway,  local archaeology, the visual impact of the area & community use of the field

St Cadoc’s Hospital. The deletion of green space at the hospital, along with the deletion of the proposed site for the Caerleon railway halt

McReady’s , Ponthir Road, Roman Lodge Hotel and Mill Street. These sites are included for development.

Councillors Gail Giles and Cliff Suller have submitted their objections to all of the above.

Note: Councillor Paul Huntley, as a member of Newport City Council’s  Planning Committee, cannot comment at this stage.

Details and information on how to object can be found at Newport libraries including Caerleon Library, by ringing 01633 656656, or by going online at for information about the Local Development Plan and the Alternative Sites Stage.

The deadline is  5.00pm on September 19th so there’s not much time.

There’s also some news about the Proposed Specialist Critical Care Centre at Llanfrechfa. Outline planning permission has now been submitted to Torfaen Council. Caerleon councillors have raised concerns about increases in traffic, including construction vehicles, and associated air pollution.
