Caerleon flood protection scheme is visited by minister

  • Carl and Jayne

Natural Resources Minister Carl Sargeant and  the Labour candidate in the  Assembly Elections next May, Jayne Bryant, have been visiting ongoing flood work at Caerleon, which will give protection to about 40 houses in the Old Village. The Welsh Government flood programme has created hundreds of jobs throughout Wales in recent years. Nearly 4,000 properties across Wales will see their flood risk significantly reduced through schemes being completed this autumn and winter.

Carl Sargeant said,“I have recently visited a number of the communities benefiting from increased protection from flooding to see first hand the work involved in progressing these flood protection schemes.“Over the lifetime of this government, not only will over £240 million have been invested in flood and coastal defences protecting more than 12,000 properties (including 10,700 homes), this investment has led to an estimated 930 jobs having been supported or created across Wales through the programme to date.”
