Flood relief work – new arrangements for motorists
-
After pressure from Caerleon’s three Labour councillors, Natural Resources Wales have agreed to modify their traffic arrangements to reduce disruption to motorists.
Work is well under way on the flood prevention scheme in the area of the Toll House. A new raised wall will protect many of the houses in the Old Village and there will be a raised bund adjacent to the Ship Inn.
A temporary demountable barrier is to be provided near the Toll House to prevent flooding during exceptionally high tides. Although the work is badly needed, our Councillors are aware that it is causing traffic disruption.
As a result of pressure from the councillors, the contractors have assured them that they are responding flexibly to traffic flow and will remove the traffic lights by 3.00pm each day although there will be some days when they are necessary until 3.30pm.
Completion is expected early next year/
