Newport Planning Committee come to the Angel to see for themselves

  • Newport City Council’s Planning Committee came to Caerleon on June 14th for a site meeting at the Angel.

Rather than making a decision before the council elections in May it was decided that it should be deferred  until June by which time a new committee would have been been appointed. Caerleon Councillor Paul Huntley (pictured above) is a member of the new Committee.

Council officers offered no objections to the application by a local development company to convert the Angel into a Sainsbury’s convenience store, but massive objections from Caerleon residents and strong reservations by councillors on the previous planning commitee led to the decision being  postponed.

The application has  also been strongly opposed by  Councillor Cliff Suller ( pictured above at the site meeting) and by Councillor Gail Giles.
