Our Spring Newsletter – The Future of the Caerleon Campus
-
Our Spring Newsletter of 2016 focuses on the fate of the University Campus and the Assembly elections. Big decisions locally – and big decisions nationally.
Rosemary Butler is retiring and Jayne Bryant is taking her place as Labour’s candidate in the May elections. It’s vital for us that Labour achieve a good result because another Labour Government would provide continuity in Wales and a voice of opposition to the Tories in Westminster.

We also feature the latest developments in the plan by the University of South Wales to close their Caerleon Campus, a decision which Newport City Council and the Welsh Government were not empowered to overturn. Our councillors have been working closely with USW to minimise the effect on the town, and the public will have their say over the next few months. The University are organising a public exhibition at Newport High School Old Boys Rugby Club (Yew Tree Lane), there will be many opportunities for residents to have their say through the planning process and the councillors will be organising a public meeting, probably in the Town Hall.
