Rosemary Butler wecomes new Welsh Government investment in Newport

    Rosemary Butler, Assembly Member for Newport West has welcomed the news that Newport has received over £14 million under the Welsh Government’s Vibrant and Viable Places funding scheme.

    The funding will be used in the regeneration of the city centre, and will be supported by both public and private investment.

    The projects that will receive funding include:
    • The Landlord Loan Scheme- assisting landlords with future licensing and registration
    • Commercial Street- housing and commercial use
    • Newport Market- refurbishment of windows and external facade
    • 62-66 Cardiff Road- housing association accommodation
    • Employment and training facility- within the Central Communities First Cluster, an empty property will be developed to become a new flexible learning and employment centre.
    • Townscape Heritage Scheme- improvements to the exterior of buildings
    • Citizens Advice Bureau- improvements to a reception area and meeting rooms

    Rosemary Butler AM said: “This package of Welsh Government funding is fantastic news for Newport and will benefit my constituency. The regeneration of Newport City Centre is taking shape, and further investment to refurbish both commercial and residential buildings will make a real impact to the city. I look forward to following each of these projects and seeing the finished result. ”
