Councillors Gail Giles, Cliff Suller and Paul Huntley have been meeting the Chief Executive of Newport City Homes to discuss their plan to build flats at Eastfield Road, following the destruction of garages there..
The councillors reiterated their concerns and objections to any additional development and consequential traffic increases. Although the original plan was rejected by Newport City officers, it’s open to NCH to resubmit another planning application for the site, to which Councillors Giles and Suller would continue to object.
But if a new plan is submitted, the councillors want NCH to consider reducing the size of the development and engage closely and effectively with the community throughout the process. They also requested that, wherever possible, benefits for the immediate community should be provided.
Councillor Paul Huntley who was also present at the meeting could not comment as he is Chair of Planning.
NCH’s Chief Executive has agreed to their request and will be holding an exhibition drop-in session for residents at the Hub, Roman Way on Tuesday 14th June, between 4 &6 pm.
