Welsh Government spends more on services than UK average

  • The Welsh Government in Cardiff,  against all the odds, continues to maintain a high level of spending on essential public services, despite deep funding cuts by the Conservative Government at Westminster.

According to official figures published by HM Treasury Wales spends more per head on public services than the UK average, and more on health, social services and education than England.`

Meanwhile, assisted by the Business Wales service, the number of businesses in Wales has been growing and with it the creation of jobs.  In regard to housing, over the last four years 7560 empty properties have been transformed into homes and the Welsh Government is ahead of schedule in delivering 10,000 affordable homes within this Assembly.

    Also featured in the reports:

    •  £11.2 to reduce the number of young people not in education, employment or training
    • £10m towards childcare costs to help unemployed parents into work or training
    • Faster access to mental health treatment as the waiting time target is reduced
    • Microchipping of all dogs will be a legal requirement from April 2016
